Paige Lutz: Sharing Faith & Photography

Another week- Another feature!

The goal of this series is not only to help inspire creatives to put their faith first, but also to find belonging for faith-centered creatives. This is my small way to make my own photography business a ministry<3

For my second interview, I reached out to Paige with Paige Lutz Photography. Paige specializes in weddings and couples. She has a classic, romantic & soft style;) I admire Paige deeply not only for her beautiful work, but for her desire to share her faith! Her social media accounts are full of inspiring Christian content! Find her work HERE.

In fact, she is hosting her first Christian Content Retreat in Colorado this year- designed to gather and equip creatives to pursue their God-given callings! It focuses on pressing towards the life and calling God has set before creatives through fixing our eyes heavenward, growing our faith, and boldly sharing the Word through our lives. It looks absolutely incredible! Highly recommend!:)

Okay, let's get into it!!!

For His Glory with Paige Lutz:

  1. What does turning your photography into a ministry look like to you?

"Turning my photography business into a ministry truly starts with my mindset. Surrendering this business to God every single day. This business is His not mine. I am not perfect at this, but it is my goal. Starting my mindset off this way and carrying it throughout my business.

It looks like showing love and kindness to my clients, praying over them, being flexible and understanding, showing honesty, and truly caring about my clients and not the money. My goal is to show Jesus in the way I carry myself and my work ethic. If I get the chance to share the gospel full on with someone then amazing, but if not I want to show them Jesus in all the ways I can!!"

  1. What’s a scripture you lean on personally or in your business?

The scripture I lean on is 1st Corinthians 10:31:

"So whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God"

3. How do you stay grounded in your faith when business responsibilities get overwhelming?

Luke 21:36
Luke 21:36

"When everything is crazy, I try my best to pray. Pray before I start and throughout the workday.

Turning on worship music while I'm working or driving really provide peace of mind and remind me this is all for Him and He will get me through."

4. In what ways do you intentionally share Christ’s light with your clients?

"I intentionally share Christ's light with my clients by just loving them the best I can. My job is to take photos that they will love, but I want them to have felt Christ's love and to know that I genuinely care about them and am trying my best to serve them well.

I love to share my faith with my clients when the opportunity is given and make it known that the only reason I am where I am today is because of Him. Also praying over my clients before I even meet them is always a goal of mine and after as well."

5. What advice would you give to business owners striving to glorify God in their work?

"The advice I would give to any business owner aiming to glorify God in their business is to surrender and trust. Surrender every aspect of your business to God and trust that He will provide and take you where He wants you. This is a daily decision, but setting your mind to think that everything is for God is such a game changer.

Philippians 4:20
Philippians 4:20

Along with this is making sure your work is glorifying God and even the music you place on your posts on social media or anything on your website. Your social media is a valuable tool, but make sure that people can see that you love Jesus, not just in your bio but throughout your posts and your website too! Always listen to the Holy Spirit, so if you feel you shouldn't post something or use a different song even if it isn't trending, then listen. Also Tithe!!! Give the first fruits of your business to Him!!"

6. Have you ever had a moment in your business where you clearly saw God’s hand?

"Oh all the time!! God is so good where do I begin?! I think a big one for me is when I realized I would be able to be full time straight out of college. This was weighing heavy on my heart as I was just about to get married and would be the sole income of my husband and I as he would be in medical school. But God provided and I did not need to get a 2nd job at all! Such an answered prayer there!!

Isaiah 55:9
Isaiah 55:9

Another big one was when I got an inquiry from a bride in New Zealand. I have always wanted to go back to New Zealand and wanted to travel for photography so badly. This inquiry blew me away and I knew it was straight from the Lord. The bride and groom just wanted their wedding day to be Christ centered and wanted a photographer who shared that with them and they found me and I was able to experience the sweetest wedding day with the most amazing Jesus loving people!! This was all God and I am so grateful!"

7. How do you discern between your own plans and what God is calling you to do in your business?

"Truly through prayer and listening for the Holy Spirit! My favorite prayer to pray after every inquiry is:

"God open or close this door, guide me and lead me to what you want me to do".

8. What rhythms or habits (prayer, worship, devotionals) help keep Christ at the center of your creative process?

"The habits that help keep Christ at the center are:

  1. Prayer. Praying over my business and through busy or stressful times. Praying prayers of surrender and guidance as well.

  2. Worship. Listening to worship music is such an easy and simple way to center my mind on Jesus and remind myself of who I am truly working for.

  3. Quiet Time. For me this is journaling and reading my Bible. Just having a set quiet time to be with the Lord before I start my work day.

  4. Tithing. I give 10% of everything I make to the Lord, and this is another act of surrender:)

What a beautiful testimony Paige has! 1 Corinthians 10:31 "...do it all for the glory of God" is also one of my favorites, and I love how thoroughly she brings this verse to life in the way she lives her life and runs her business. It takes so much effort and boldness to speak about faith on social media, to proclaim truth, to go against the grain of society... but Paige does it with a sincere love of the Lord and courage for truth.

Page's desire to "show them Jesus in every way I can" reminds me of a song I was listening to this week- "more of you" by Strings & Heart... the chorus states, "I want more of you and less of me, Jesus I surrender at your feet." I think so much of what Paige talked about epitomizes this phrase. As we remember our businesses are HIS, not OURS, we can better put Him at the face of it. We can make the daily decision to turn to Him and allow His will to be manifest in the choices we make.

As we do so, we will start to attract God-fearing clients, build community, and create powerful friendships with those who share similar values- just like Paige's inquiry from the New Zealand couple who wanted a Christ-centered wedding. I have also booked clients because I've shared my faith publicly on my page. Aligning your personal brand with our personal values... INCLUDING your faith, might be the most beneficial thing you can do for your business.

Galatians 2:20
Galatians 2:20

One last comment to add... this week I nannied for a family of 7 and was reminded of how easy it is to get caught up in the busy-ness of life... early morning wake up calls from the baby, constant cleaning to be done, content to be posted, food to be made, emails to be sent, errands to run.... how fast life can drag us down and leave us feeling empty, exhausted, and overwhelmed. About halfway through the week I decided to spend just 5-10 minutes in God's word earlyyyy in the morning while I laid in bed after the baby woke me up (turned on some Bluey for her;).... a fraction of the day... the smallest sacrifice of my time... but my cup was truly filled. I felt more peace, had more patience, and an added measure of strength throughout the day. I know that God can turn our smallest offerings into grand and beautiful works.

Just as Paige explained... we turn our businesses into ministries through surrendering our will to His every single day. Even when it takes everything in us to worship. That's when it matters most:)
